As you may know, NC Governor Cooper has mandated that all K-12 schools be closed for the next two weeks beginning this Monday, March 16th. The Board Chair, Vice-Chair, Mr. Hawkins, Ms. Morris and I met Friday to develop a plan of action in case Albemarle School should need to be closed. We decided that we would comply with school closure recommendations or mandates, and preschool would be included.
To minimize the loss of instructional time, Spring Break for students will be moved to next week (March 16th-20th). However, all staff members should report to work on Monday, March 16th from 8:00-3:00. Students will still have Good Friday (April 10th) and Easter Monday (April 13th) as holidays. During the week of March 23rd-27th, all staff will report to work. K-12 teachers will provide assignments and projects, and students will be expected to complete all assignments during that time. Preschool teachers will provide developmentally appropriate activities for parents.
For those who have no child care options, we are going to compile a list of our responsible high school students who will be willing to provide that service.
We are very sorry for the inconvenience this causes everyone. We know this provides hardship for many people. I am certain these extraordinary measures were taken only after careful consideration for the safety of all NC citizens.
We will continue to provide updates as additional information becomes available.
